How to Extend the Life of Your Projector Lamp

A replacement lamp is one of the bigger ongoing costs of owning a projector, so a little care goes a long way. A few habits that genuinely extend lamp life:
Always let it cool down properly. Switch off using the remote or power button (not the wall socket) so the internal fan can finish its cool-down cycle — cutting power early is one of the most common causes of premature lamp failure.
Keep the vents clear. Projectors need airflow to keep the lamp at a safe temperature. Don't box them in on a shelf or let dust build up over the intake vents.
Clean or replace filters regularly. A clogged filter forces the lamp to run hotter than it should, shortening its life significantly.
Use Eco or low-brightness mode when you don't need full brightness. Most projectors offer a reduced-power mode that can roughly double lamp life with only a modest drop in brightness — worth using for everyday classroom or office use.
Avoid frequent on/off cycling. Each start-up puts a small amount of stress on the lamp. If you're switching it on and off within a short space of time, it's gentler on the lamp to just leave it running.
None of this guarantees a lamp will never fail — they're a consumable part — but these habits routinely add hundreds of extra hours before a replacement is needed.
